The Ecovolunteers Charter

#Engagement 1: CHOOSE WITH AWARENESS

Apart from the criteria of personal choice, the ecovolunteer undertakes to learn about the different practices of ecovolunteering and to choose an ecovolunteering mission in accordance with the ethical charter of eco-volunteering ..

#Engagement 2: COMMIT FULLY

Before registering for a mission, the ecovolunteer undertakes to inform himself about the reception and participation conditions he will encounter within the project.

The ecovolunteer also commits to realistically and transparently assess whether its physical and mental capacities meet the requirements of the project.

#Engagement 3: PREPARE YOUR MISSION TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE ON SITE

Before leaving for an eco-volunteering mission, the participant undertakes to learn about the project, the geographical and climatic conditions, as well as the cultural, economic, and social context in which his mission falls; the participant also undertakes to participate in a preparation training if it is proposed by the ecovolunteer structure.

#Engagement 4: PARTICIPATE IN RESPECT

The ecovolunteer is aware of being a guest within the project and behaving with sensitivity to his host, in accordance with the instructions on safety, animals and the environment, and collective rules of life.

The ecovolunteer will give up the time of his mission, to his comfort and his habits, and to adapt to the conditions of reception and his new environment by respecting local customs and socio-cultural rules.

#Engagement 5: SHARE AND TOLERATE

The ecovolunteer is committed to living and sharing his experience with other participants and / or project members. He is an actor within the project and shares with him his experience and his proposals.

#Engagement 6: STAY FLEXIBLE DURING HIS MISSION

The ecovolunteer does not engage for a specific activity but for a project to which he wishes to help. Although the local involvement of the ecovolunteer is described before his arrival, the ecovolunteer is committed to adapting and accepting the hazards due to the work in the field and the needs of the project.

#Engagement 7: LIMITING ITS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

The ecovolunteer undertakes to limit the environmental impact due directly or indirectly to its participation, and to the extent of its possibilities, by:

  • Adapting the duration of its participation according to its distance and the mode of transport chosen (balance between the territorial benefits related to the mission and the ecological impact of the displacement, compensation CO2).
  • Favoring the most ecological modes of transport.
  • Using personally ecological products: soap, laundry, sunscreen, solar powered electrical equipment ...
  • Adopting eco-gestures on the spot: fresh water, waste management, energy consumption ...

#8 commitment: DO NOT EXPECT SPECIFIC AND / OR IMMEDIATE RESULT

The ecovolunteer is aware of contributing, at its level, to a global and long-term action. As the link in a chain, he continues the work of the previous ecovolunteers and prepares the next arrivals. Thus, like the Hummingbird, the ecovolunteer is aware of doing his part and, even if his action has no direct visible results, to contribute to a basic action.

#Engagement 9: GIVE AWARENESS

The participation of the ecovolunteer is entirely voluntary, and he can not expect any compensation except the satisfaction of having contributed to the progress of the project to which he is committed.

In addition to its help in the field, the ecovolunteer can also contribute to the success and sustainability of the project through a financial contribution.
