Testimony of Lydie for the mission Expeditions in the sanctuary Pelagos: study of Cetaceans and Biodiversity, France

Mission of 7 days done in August 2019

My participation

We were working in "quarter", so 3 people were observing for 2 hours, before another group took over.
We were watching 2-3 once a day. During the observation, we had to be attentive to all that we saw at sea to note it in the application "obsenmer". We had to identify the species, the behavior, the course ...
There were also kitchen and housekeeping shifts.
When we slept off there were shifts at night.

My expectations

My stay totally corresponded to my expectations, it has combined the useful: by the collection of scientific data that will be used by scientists to protect our planet; to the pleasant by the frame, the possibility to see marine animals while respecting them.
What could be better ?

My advice

Do not forget your mask and snorkel !! This can be very useful when a devil ray makes you happy to come swim with you! ;-)

What I retain

This mission allowed me to observe with my own eyes the wonders of the marine world and to contribute to its protection which is absolutely essential.

My assets

I was already in a very ecological approach in my daily life, this mission only reinforced my convictions.
